Shoji Screens Australia designs, manufactures and installs complete Japanese rooms or elements of a Japanese room. We offer a range of Japanese products including tatami mats and raised flooring for the tatami mats, Japanese alcoves (tokonoma), and Japanese ceilings (gotenjo).
- Tatami mat rooms– tatami mats are used widely throughout Japanese homes in bedrooms, lounge rooms, and restaurants, where people can gather in groups to sit on tatami mats and drink tea. If you would like a room with a real Japanese feel where you can gather with friends or family in a unique environment then a tatami mat room may be the answer for you.
- Gotenjo – beautiful, Japanese style wood ceilings. A gotenjo will instantly create a unique look in a modern, western home. There are many different styles from traditional to modern. They consist either from a lattice style with inserts or timber veneer sheets. Uses include the home foyer, Japanese rooms and hotel architecture.
- Tokonoma – a small alcove in a room that is built slightly higher than the tatami or floor to showcase flowers, pictures or ornaments.
